International Services
Community
Language Bank
The
International Services Committee (ISC) maintains a
corps of bilingual and trilingual community
volunteers who are on call to serve as interpreters
and/or translators in emergency situations.
As the counties
in the Upstate become more culturally diverse,
the need for translation is increasing. There are
currently volunteers from 39 different countries who
speak 34 different languages represented in the
Language Bank.
Reuniting
Families
The American
Red Cross works with other national societies to
trace family members in the midst of war, civil
unrest, or disaster in other countries.
When regular
communications are severed during war, the Red Cross
provides a conduit for separated family members to
exchange messages.
When natural
disasters strike, normal lines of communication may
be disrupted for some time. Families in the U.S. who
are anxious about the welfare of relatives in a
disaster-stricken area can call on the Red Cross.
Information will be posted when it becomes available.
